Singing trek to Nanda Devi
Friday 4th - Sunday 20th April 2008

If you like the idea of a 10 day trek, singing round a fire and under the stars surrounded by the highest mountains in the world, then this is for you.
This classic trek goes through one of the most legendary regions in the entire Himalayan chain. The mountain, Nanda Devi, is revered by all those who live in its shadow and it has long attracted the attention of the pioneering mountaineers and explorers, mystics and travellers who have visited the area. Everest may well be the highest peak in the world but the beautiful peak of Nanda Devi must surely be the most fascinating. We will trek across the picturesque meadows and valleys that border the western edge of the Nanda Devi Sanctuary, alongside rivers and through forests of oak, chestnut and rhododendron, taking the opportunity to sing in special places.
Starting in the bustling city of Delhi, we will travel to Haridwar, an ancient city where the river Ganges is said to flow out of the Himalayan foothills like the locks of Shiva’s hair. It then begins its 2000km journey across the plains to the Bay of Bengal. Haridwar is one of the seven holy towns of Hinduism, and site of the epic twelve yearly Kumbh Mela festival. From there we will drive along the River Ganges to Rishikesh, made famous by the Beatles. With its many ashrams it is known as the yoga capital of the world.
The trek starts at Mundoli and is classified as a "moderate" to "moderately tough" trek at low altitude so a good level of fitness is required. The trek is available to people between the ages of 15 and 65. Our average daily walking time is 4 hours with a maximum altitude of 3658m and an average of 2700m. It is a 17 day trip, London to London, with 10 days trekking and camping with full porterage, 3 nights in hotels and 2 nights in a rest house.
Cost: £1495
